The Load Cell Upgrade Paid for Itself in Three Months. It Hasn’t Stopped Paying.
A long-standing chemical manufacturing customer was fighting drift and inconsistent readings on an analog batching tank, and every fault meant testing load cells one by one. SSC’s Mobile team replaced the analog cells with PDX digital load cells with built-in diagnostics. The upgrade paid for itself within the first quarter and has kept delivering since.

The Problem
A long-standing chemical manufacturing customer serviced by SSC’s Mobile team was struggling to keep weight readings consistent on a batching tank running older analog load cells. Readings fluctuated, batch repeatability suffered, and the system needed frequent recalibration to correct for drift. When something went wrong, diagnosing it took longer than it should have. Each analog load cell had to be tested one at a time, which meant more downtime and slower troubleshooting than the operation could afford.
The Fix
SSC’s Mobile team reviewed how the tank was actually being used and recommended upgrading to PDX digital load cells with built-in diagnostics. The new cells hold a more stable reading with less drift, and they give operators visibility into the performance of each individual cell in real time. Diagnostics run at the terminal, so identifying a fault no longer means pulling cells one by one. The team coordinated the installation around the customer’s production schedule to keep the interruption to a minimum.
“The upgrade paid for itself within the first quarter and has consistently delivered increased yield since.” Plant Manager, Chemical Manufacturing
The Result
The upgrade paid for itself within the first quarter. Batches run more consistently, calibration adjustments have dropped off, and the customer is no longer losing time tracking down the source of weight variation. Less material is lost to inconsistent batches, and the customer reports the improved stability has kept yield up ever since the install.

Why It Matters
A Company Built to Last.
Not to Flip.
This customer has been with SSC’s Mobile team for years. When the batching tank started drifting, the team didn’t just recalibrate around the problem again. They looked at why it kept happening and recommended the upgrade that actually fixed it. That’s what a long-term relationship with an employee-owned company looks like: technicians who think about your total cost of ownership, not just the next service call.
System Scale has been employee-owned since 1995. In business since 1979. We’re not a roll-up. We’re not for sale. The team that upgraded this tank has the same stake in the outcome you do.
