Humidity Was Calling a Technician Every Month. Now It Doesn’t.
A regional logistics operator across South Louisiana was burning service calls on recurring kiosk printer jams. SSC’s Baton Rouge team diagnosed the root cause, fixed it in a single visit, and the problem has not recurred in over a year.

The Problem
A regional logistics operator running multiple truck scale locations across South Louisiana was calling SSC’s Baton Rouge team every month during the summer. The pattern was the same each time: receipt paper jams inside the kiosk printer. The extra moisture in the air caused the paper to swell slightly during storage, which made it bind on ejection. Traffic backed up. Kiosk operations paused. A technician drove out.
SSC had taken over this account roughly one year prior. The kiosk printer issue was a recurring drain on the maintenance budget and on SSC technician time. It was also the kind of problem that looks like operator error from the outside but is actually environmental.
The Fix
The SSC Baton Rouge team focused on the root cause, the environment inside the kiosk enclosure, not the printer itself. Rather than recommending new hardware, they adjusted the kiosk’s internal heater settings to reduce ambient moisture inside the cabinet, and added desiccant packs around the paper compartment to absorb excess humidity. The fix addressed the actual cause: damp air reaching the paper roll before print.
This approach cost a fraction of a printer replacement. More importantly, it held.
The Result
Monthly service calls for printer jams dropped to near zero. In over 12 months since the adjustment, the operator has had one or two incidents, both traced to paper loading error, not humidity. The kiosk runs through Louisiana summers without the recurring maintenance drag that had become part of the baseline.

Why It Matters
A Company Built to Last.
Not to Flip.
When SSC’s Baton Rouge team took over this account, they inherited the printer jam problem too. They didn’t close the ticket and move on. They found the root cause and eliminated it. That’s what a PM relationship with an employee-owned company looks like: technicians who think like owners, not like shift workers running a call list.
System Scale has been employee-owned since 1995. In business since 1979. We’re not a roll-up. We’re not for sale. The technician who fixed this kiosk has the same stake in the outcome you do.
