The Problem

A logistics and retail fulfillment operator in North Georgia was running its filling process entirely by hand. Operators opened and closed valves manually and estimated fill weights by eye, with no scale-based check anywhere in the line. There was no way to catch an overfill or underfill before it shipped, and throughput had a hard ceiling: how fast one person could work a valve. The inconsistency made it difficult to plan capacity or commit to a delivery timeline with confidence.

The Fix

SSC’s Cartersville, GA team installed a scale-based automated filling system that dispenses to a predetermined setpoint, removing the manual valve step from the process. An in-motion checkweigher with auto-reject was added downstream to catch any fill outside tolerance before it left the line. Load cells were installed for raw material weighing, and floor scales were added for shipping and receiving, giving the operator a scale-verified number at every stage instead of a visual guess.

The Result

Fill consistency improved immediately, and the overfills and underfills that used to be routine were eliminated. With the manual bottleneck gone, the customer reports throughput has roughly doubled, processing product at about twice the speed of the old manual line. The facility now runs on scale-verified numbers from raw material intake through shipping, not visual estimation.
