Production Couldn’t Wait 12 Weeks. We Found an Overnight Fix.

A large industrial manufacturer in the Augusta area shut down its main production line when an internationally sourced load cell failed, and the only replacement was 12 to 14 weeks out. The System Scale Augusta team would not accept that for their customer. They dug in, found a compatible cell from a different manufacturer, had it delivered overnight, and got the line back into production with shims as the only modification.

The Problem

A large, high-volume industrial manufacturer in the Augusta area runs its main production line on a specialty compression load cell sourced from an international manufacturer. When that cell failed, the line stopped. Nothing on the primary line was producing.

The standard answer was to order the original part and wait. The quoted lead time was 12 to 14 weeks. For a plant at this volume, that meant close to three months without its main line. The cell was a specialty design with no listed domestic equivalent, so a catalog lookup was not going to produce a match.

The Fix

The System Scale Augusta team would not accept that answer for their customer. They treated it as a research problem instead of a parts order. They worked through the cell’s physical footprint, capacity, and mounting, along with how it interacted with the rest of the weighing system and the process it served. That deep dive turned up a Rice Lake compression load cell, from a different manufacturer, that met the requirements of the application.

Shims were the only modification needed to fit it. The replacement also cost less than the original, which made it a smaller sale for System Scale. It was the right answer for the customer, so it was the answer. A match like that surfaces only when the team understands the equipment, the application, and how the two work together.

The Result

The replacement cell was delivered overnight, and the main line went back into production without waiting out a 12 to 14 week lead time. The customer is now standardizing on the new cell. Its main line no longer depends on a single-source international part with a three-month wait, and the cell it runs on has already proven it can arrive overnight.

Why It Matters

A Company Built to Last.
Not to Flip.

When the only replacement was months out, the System Scale Augusta team could have placed the order and waited alongside the customer. They went looking for a better answer instead, and they kept looking until they found one. That is employee ownership on a service call: a team that treats the customer’s downtime like its own.

System Scale has been employee-owned since 1995. In business since 1979. We’re not a roll-up. We’re not for sale. The people solving the problem have an ownership stake in the company standing behind the solution.
