A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
WE DO IT THE HARD WAY. ON PURPOSE.
I’ve written before about why we’re built to last, not to flip. A fair follow-up question is, “Ok…but what does that actually look like?”
Here’s the answer: we run our service model in a way a lot of smart people would call inefficient. And on paper, they’re probably right.
As companies in our industry get bigger, there’s a natural push toward centralization. Fewer local offices, more decisions made somewhere far from the customer, and more processes designed around efficiency. The savings can look pretty compelling. But somewhere along the way, it’s easy to lose the personal relationships that made those businesses successful in the first place.
We’re growing too. And we’ve centralized plenty… HR, finance, marketing, and other functions that support our business. We’ll continue doing that where it makes sense. But when it comes to local service and accountability, we’re not willing to compromise.
Every one of our full-service offices has its own local team. These are people who know your facility, understand your operation, and are personally accountable for the service you receive. They’re not managing your business from hundreds of miles away. They’re right there in your community.
And that makes a difference.
When a tech knows your facility, they show up knowing what they’re walking into. When the person coordinating your service understands your operation, they can plan around your production instead of just their calendar. When the install crew lives down the road, they build it like they’ll be the ones coming back to service it… because they will. And when something goes sideways (it happens), you know exactly who to call. Someone who knows your business and takes responsibility for making it right.
One of our longtime customers put it better than I could:
“We have all worked together for so many years now (and it has always been a pleasure), that even though I don’t see you all and talk to you every day, you all are like extended family. I have and will continue to highly recommend you all to anyone in need of measurement and calibration services.”
LONGTIME SYSTEM SCALE CUSTOMER
YOU DON’T GET THAT FROM A TICKET NUMBER.
Don’t mistake any of this for being old-fashioned. We’ve invested heavily in technology for years, and we’ve been recognized for it. We use data to spot problems earlier, and we’re finding practical ways to put AI to work for our customers. But technology is only as good as the people using it. Ours makes our local teams faster and sharper. It doesn’t replace them.
The reality is, this gets harder as we grow. Every new location, every new customer, every new layer adds pressure to centralize. Somebody will always be able to show us a spreadsheet that says we’d save money by replacing local teams with a regional hub. They’ll be right about the savings. We’re just not willing to pay for them with our customer relationships.
We can make that call because we’re employee-owned. There’s no outside investor pushing for a faster return and no exit date forcing us to trade long-term relationships for short-term results. The people serving your facility own the company… and they plan to be here.
It’s not the easiest way to run a company. But after all these years, we’re more convinced than ever that it’s the right one.
